It looks like TV’s next singing competition reality show is here! Slated to air on the FOX Network, the program titled “The Four Show: Battle To Stardom” has now come to the forefront. After losing a heavy bidding war to ABC in late May, for the revamp of popular series “American Idol”, FOX promptly went into action. Network executives started diving in a renewed direction, in order to bring a different type of music series into fruition.
How It Works…
Contestants will audition the traditional way for a spot on the show. Four acts will be chosen in the beginning, however week after week they will have to defend their spot in order to stay in the race. This is where it gets interesting. Every week, anyone who sends in an audition tape and is chosen by fans to appear on the following episode, will get a chance to challenge the current contestants and even possibly replace them. If the existing performers outdo the challengers, they will survive and stay to see another day. The competition will play out until the very end, when the “Final Four” remaining will go head to head in single eliminations for the ultimate crown. Eventually ending with one final champion.
Rob Wade, Executive producer of the series and FOX’s reality TV Chief stated: “I want shows that appeal to a broad audience and people of all ages. I really want to give people a new hit.”When asked about the intense dynamic of the competition, he described the new venture as “A truncated Game of Thrones with better singing”.
Appropriately, balancing out the show there will also be four judges. So far two heavy hitters are already on tap for the affair. Mega producer/hit maker DJ Khaled and all around music tycoon Sean “Diddy” Combs will anchor half the panel. Filling the other two spots will consist of a music industry executive, (rumor has it that big time label head Charlie Walk has been offered this position). The other will be a professional recording artist, narrowed down to three female pop stars thus far: Fergie, Meghan Trainor and Bebe Rexha. The final selection will be announced soon.
In addition, there is one final unorthodox ending to cap the series. Once the winner is chosen by the judges, all four will team up to help launch the winner’s career. Not a bad deal right?
CEO of FOX Network, Dana Walden is optimistic on the success that the shows innovative nature will bring, stating at a recent press conference:
“This show will begin…where most competitions end. With four finalists.” She went on to say, “We want to give people a twist in format. It feels fresh and timely.”
So to all you aspiring musicians out there, don’t sleep on your shot now! You might just find yourself on that Final Four stage as the next overnight star.
The Four Show: “Battle To Stardom” is currently holding auditions in select cities throughout the U.S. The series will premiere in January of 2018.
