Drake Supports #FreeMeekMill During Concert in Melbourne

After Meek Mill’s sentencing to 2 to 4 years in prison for violating probation earlier this month, much of the Hip-Hop community has voiced their support for the Philadelphia rapper, and their denunciation of the harsh sentence.

Last weekend, an unexpected voice was also added to the chorus of artists expressing their support: The 6God himself. Despite their beef, Drake commented on Meek Mill’s freedom during his concert at Melbourne, Australia, a stop on his “Boys Meets World” tour.

After recognizing a fan in the crowd wearing a shirt that read “Free Meek Mill”, Drake took a moment to express his thoughts to the crowd,

“I see you got the ‘Free Meek Mill’ t-shirt. Free Meek Mill too man, for real. You right.”

Drake and Meek Mill’s beef spans back to 2015 when Meek accused Drake of having used ghost writers on “R.I.C.O” from Meek’s album Dreams Worth More than Money. Since then, a slew of popular diss tracks including “Back to Back” and “War Pain” have been released.

But beef or no beef, right is right. And what’s happening with Meek clearly is not right. And the industry as a whole only stands to benefit from artists as big as Drake putting aside differences to support the greater good. Hopefully, this will encourage more unity across the Hip-Hop landscape.

Till then, #FREEMEEKMILL !!!
