Louisiana native Kevin Gates pled guilty to felony gun possession Wednesday in a Cook County, Illinois courtroom. The rapper, who was transferred to Illinois back in March upon completion of a 6-month sentence in Florida for kicking a teenage fan, has apparently been dodging this charge for quite some time. Originating from an October 2013 arrest, warrants have been issued twice for the rapper as a result of failure to appear in court.
Gates, whose real name is Kevin Gilyard, actually made off with a pretty good deal. He was facing what could have been up to 10 years in prison for the arrest and failures to appear if convicted. However, taking the plea, led to a 30 month sentence instead. His attorney has stated that they are “very pleased” with the outcome. Gates will receive 34 days time served in the Illinois prison. #FreeKevinGates … We’ll be waiting for you.
