Master P, whose real name is Percy Miller, is in the process of producing his own biopic with the help of Queen Latifah. In 2015, the New Orleans native announced that he had co-written a biopic titled “King of the South” that will bring his rags-to-riches story to a screen near you.
Queen Latifah has been tapped to play P’s mother and it was recently announced that The Wire’s Wendell Pierce will also have a role in this much anticipated film that will begin shooting this summer. Master P released a statement saying:
“The timing is right for me to tell my story. It was tough back then especially being from the South, New Orleans was the murder capital at the time. I want others to learn from my mistakes and understand my work ethic of never giving up, no matter what it may look like. If you believe in yourself, keep your faith in God strong and stay close to your family, you can accomplish anything. Life is about choices, there’s no limit to your success if you work hard.”
It’s true, Master P had quite a rough upbringing, but he turned his lemons into lemonade when he went to college on an athletic scholarship for basketball. He went on to study business and open a record store called “No Limit Records” that is now the historic label that is credited by some for originating trap music, and is now an enterprise worth over $350 million.
Miller isn’t just a rapper turned actor. No Limit Enterprises contains a travel agency, a Foot Locker retail outlet, real estate, stocks, film, music, and television production, toy making, a phone sex company, clothing, telecommunications, a jewelry line, auto accessories, book and magazine publishing, car rims, fast food franchises, and gas stations.
The man is a business mogul and he definitely wants to give back to the community that raised him by holding open auditions to cast for a role in his movie for New Orleans natives on April 4 in Gretna, Louisiana, according to All Hip Hop. There is no word on a release date yet but we will definitely keep you updated.
