Only one day after celebrating Christmas with her cousin, Rihanna had to say goodbye.
RiRi posted a touching photo series on her Instagram where she called for the end of gun violence.
Rihanna captions: “RIP cousin… can’t believe it was just last night that I held you in my arms! never thought that would be the last time I felt the warmth in your body!!! Love you always man!” #endgunviolence
Rihanna didn’t mention any particular details concerning her cousin; however local Barbadian news station Nation News reported that the victim of a Tuesday night shooting is 21-year-old Tavon Kaiseen Alleyne. Police found in early investigations that Alleyne was walking by a track near his home in St. Michael, Barbados, when a man shot him multiple times and fled the scene around 7 p.m. local time. Authorities are still searching for the suspect.
Rihanna tagged her cousin’s profile in the post, where fans can find a birthday shout-out he posted for RiRi on her 29th birthday earlier this year. “Every day we are happy to have you in our lives,” he wrote, hinting at their close relationship. “Your presence in my life is a source of joy and happiness.”
Rihanna is just one of many celebs who has lost a family member due to gun violence. In July of 2016 reality star Toya Wright’s two brothers Rudy and Josh Johnson were shot and killed in New Orleans’ 7th Ward. Chicago native and NBA star Dwayne Wade lost his cousin NyKea Aldridge, who was a mother of four, to a stray bullet. During the course of 2017, there has been a slew of mass shootings all over the U.S as well as, in the U.K. Most notably at the Ariana Grande concert.
Let’s continue to uplift Rihanna and her family in our prayers during this difficult time.
