Switching over from his usual affiliation with youth football, Snoop Dog has been named the Celebrity Commissioner, and part owner, of the Champions Basketball League. The CBL, a new summer basketball league made up of former NBA players, stated that in searching for a Celebrity Commissioner, they wanted someone who could not only bring expanded attention and interest to the league, but also had a love of the game. The Doggfather, it seems, fit the bill exactly.
The league itself was designed to provide “exclusive and affordable access to world class basketball for fans”. Snoop has stated that he is looking forward to collaborating with the organization, helping to bring in more celebrity partners and entertain the fans. It has even been announced that some of the 16 teams in the league even have opportunities set aside where fans can invest and become partial owners.
Ultimately the CBL seems designed with the fan in mind. The game will feature athletes in the stands, meet and greets before and after games, contests and prizes, and a shoot around between youth groups and the professionals. The Champions Basketball League premieres its first game this summer. Hopefully it lives up to the hype.
