Thursdays won’t be the same without Scandal

By Veronica Felipe

The recently ordered seventh season of the Shondaland drama, “Scandal” starring Kerry Washington will be its last. Though it was rather recent many feel that the show should be saved. There is even talks of a spinoff.

There was no formal announcement yet, and ABC is not commenting, but word of Scandal ‘s long-rumored end date has started to get out and people working on the show have been told this will be the final season. The whole season is still up to grabs but it isn’t suggested what will happen. All we know is that there might be a few resolutions.

Its current sixth season, as well as Season 3, were abbreviated due to star Kerry Washington’s pregnancies. The whole series will air fewer episodes to accommodate Shondaland’s other serialized thriller “How to Get Away with Murder”, which airs 15 episodes a season. It all depends on the demands from fans of the show. While it’s had its up and downs creatively, Scandal continues to hold up well in the ratings. Its sixth season opened with its biggest audience and best 18-49 rating in a year. With the last season, producers think that the overall ratings could reach an all-time high.

A notably binge-worthy show, Scandal was formatted to be a water cooler type show but became so much more considering the controversial plot and its diverse cast of characters. Scandal was like a soap opera and made each night’s episode a cliffhanger. This is one of the reasons why we appreciate the show’s longevity and its memorable plot twists. The politicians created the basis for each storyline. But in today’s political climate, who really needs fiction?

But one things is for sure, Scandal will be greatly missed.
