Urban World Film Festival Approaching

By Rikkaya Wilson

Are you a filmmaker? Well, get those final drafts ready ladies and gentlemen because you have the chance of becoming the next big talent stemming from this year’s upcoming Urban World Film Festival (UWFF). The annual Urban World Film Festival is now accepting submissions for films and screenplays for the event that takes place in New York City from September 20 through September 24.

This years UWFF is being sponsored by HBO and Revolt TV. For the past 21 years the festival has included film screenings, panel discussions, exclusive music performances, and live screenplay readings. Some of the most talented writers and directors like Ava Duvernay to F. Gary Gray have used the festival as a platform to break down the inspiration and plot of movies like “Selma” and “Law Abiding Citizen”.

Screenwriters who are responsible for shows like “Shots Fired” and documentaries like “In Football We Trust” have used the event to present their hard work to an audience full of movers and shakers in the business. The international film festival displays the talent of people of color and attracts actors and actresses like Paula Patton, Omari Hardwick, David Oyelowo, Nene Leakes, Kerry Washington, and Nia Long, to the NYC location year after year.

Who exactly is behind the festival? Stacy Sparks founded the UWFF in 1997. Since then, Sparks has changed what it means to be “urban”. “Urban” reflects the talents and visions of ethnic people in a business dominated by white males. This redefinition festival started small and is now attracting world-renowned filmmakers, producers, actors, musicians and more every fall.

Do you want a chance to get your work seen by some of the most important people in the business and shown to an audience of thousands? The Urban World Film festival is accepting submissions until June 9.

In order to be considered for the spot:
